Amassing a staggering 10 million subscribers in its first week of launch, with a prediction of 40 million by the end of 2020, the new Disney+ streaming platform, (which includes Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and Nat Geo), is poised to disrupt one third of the worlds streaming content by the year 2025.
Contracted as a Senior Art Director and Visual Design Architect, I worked with one of 3 global teams that led the charge to imagine and design one of the most anticipated streaming interfaces in the world. From designing the movie and TV title art that populated the interface, to designing and launching global marketing and social media campaigns across the U.S., Europe, Canada, and Australia / New Zealand.
My Role: Art Director, Visual Designer, Social Media Marketing
My Tools: Photoshop, Sketch, Google, InVision
My Deliverables: User-interface tile art, mobile and desktop marketing art, Social Media and web campaigns, TV/Media art including Apple, Playstation, Samsung, Sony, Amazon, Roku, Google, and others.
Creating the Interface Artwork
Working with multiple teams across continents, Phase 1 of the project entailed designing and art directing thousands of individual pieces of art assets that would populate the interface across a suite of streaming devices. Each design had to be curated and created from scratch, telling the story from thumbnail to hero, across Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. Pulling from Disney's Wonderland archive, each movie or TV title was meticulously crafted to engage, entertain, and align with the impeccable Disney brand standards.
Building for Devices
In addition to web and mobile streaming, the new Disney+ platform would stream across dozens of media players including Apple TV, Google TV, Playstation, Roku, Amazon, Samsung and others. Phase 2 of the project entailed building a complex set of assets and artwork that would run across those interfaces.
Marketing Disney+ Across Social and Display
In Phase 3 of the project we pivoted into a global marketing effort where we created social media  and display banner campaigns across an initial market of the U.S., Australia/New Zealand, Canada, and Dutch Netherlands, and currently moving into Europe. As part of the marketing efforts we curated stories, carousels, and banner ads for Facebook, Instagram, desktop, and all major rich media platforms.
